Spring Tennis Season is Here

HOUSTON, TX – The St. Thomas Tennis teams are gearing up for an exciting spring season, blending experience with fresh talent as they prepare for a competitive 2025 campaign. The women's team aims to build on last year's success, while the men's team brings in new freshman faces eager to make an impact. Fans can look forward to thrilling matches as both teams showcase their skills at the Memorial Park Tennis Center.

The action begins on February 8 at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader against LeTourneau, followed by a matchup for the men's team against Jacksonville College on February 9 at noon. Later in the month, the Celts will host Mary Hardin-Baylor on February 21 before taking on their first conference opponent of the season, UDallas, on February 22 at 11 a.m. These home matches offer the perfect opportunity for the Celts to gain momentum early in the season with strong support from their fans.

Returners and New Additions

The women's team features a trio of standout returners: senior Karissa Guzman, junior Lucia Rodriguez, and junior Ella Mullins, all of whom are poised to make significant contributions this fall season. Rodriguez, in particular, shined last 2024 spring season with a 6-3 overall record, including 4-1 in SCAC play. Her highlight came in a hard-fought victory over East Texas Baptist's Addy Seward at No. 2 singles, securing a 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 win that earned her SCAC Singles Player of the Week honors."

"I am excited! The women's team can be competitive, but the key will need to come from winning attitudes, healthy bodies, and lower lineup players stepping up," said Coach Brasington.

On the men's side, the team welcomes newcomers Wilson Salazar Jr., Sawyer White, and Michael Haranczyk, who impressed during the fall season. Transfers Raja Pandya and Andres Mora add depth and energy to the roster, while seniors Steven Kuang, Hunter-Kemball Cook, and Jeremiah Hoover bring experience and leadership. The combination of returning talent and fresh faces positions both teams for one of their most competitive seasons yet.

Head Coach Brasington adds, "The men's team has enormous potential, filled with young talent and anchored by a few seniors. The key for them is to find good chemistry early and come together as a team to find winning solutions. I can't wait to see them battle!"
