HOUSTON, TX – With the 2025 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) softball season around the corner, the University of St. Thomas finds itself ranked fourth in the preseason coaches' poll, proving once again that the Celts are a force to be reckoned with.
St. Thomas, one of only two SCAC teams to notch 20 or more wins in each of the last four seasons, is ready to build on its consistent success. Led by head coach Angela Froboese, the Celts are determined to fight their way back to the top after claiming the SCAC title in 2023.
"We have a group that works hard, plays with heart, and is hungry to compete at the highest level. This season, we're ready to make a statement", says Head Coach Froboese.
Competitive SCAC Landscape
The 2025 SCAC season will feature a record 11 teams, the largest field since 2009. Texas Lutheran enters as the preseason favorite with nine first-place votes, followed by Trinity and SCAC newcomer McMurry rounding out the top three.
St. Thomas, sitting in fourth, is joined by a SCAC newcomer, Concordia (ranked fifth), who also received attention for their recent postseason success in the American Southwest Conference.
A Proven Contender
Under Froboese's leadership, St. Thomas has built a reputation as a consistent SCAC contender. With a mix of veteran leadership and new talent, the Celts are poised to challenge the top teams and push for another deep postseason run. Since SCAC softball's inception in 1999, eight different programs have won conference titles, with St. Thomas securing its place in history with a championship in 2023. The upcoming season promises another chapter of fierce competition as the Celts gear up to battle for a return to the top. The season kicks off January 31, with the first conference series set for February 14. Don't miss any of the action this season; Click Here to view the schedule!
