UST Basketball Returns to Conference Play

HOUSTON, Texas – The University of St. Thomas men's basketball team returns to Red River Athletic Conference play for a pair of games Friday and Saturday.

The Celts (10-4, 2-1 RRAC) will host Jarvis Christian (3-6, 1-2) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Jerabeck Activity & Athletic Center. UST meets No. 13 Wiley (10-2, 2-1) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

UST went 1-1 in its holiday tournament last week. The Celts are coming off an 89-80 loss to Bethel College on Saturday.

Orowo Eleyae (SR/Houston, Texas) is averaging 18.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Paris Marquez (SR/Atascocita, Texas) has turned up his offense, and is averaging 10.4 points. He has scored in double figures in the last six games, including back-to-back season-high 22-point efforts last week. Nathan Thormaehlen (JR/Katy, Texas) is averaging 10.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Kennard Robinson (JR/Houston, Texas) is averaging 8.6 points and 5.1 assists per game. Sam Flores (SR/El Paso, Texas) is scoring 8.6 points per game.

Jarvis Christian is coming off a 98-96 overtime win over Texas Permian Basin in an exhibition Sunday. Chasten King ranks third in the nation in scoring at 23.7 points per game. He is the only Bulldog averaging in double figures. Dalyn Mumphrey leads the team in rebounding at 7.8 per game.

Wiley is coming off a 94-79 exhibition loss to Tarleton State last Friday. The Wildcats are 2-1 versus NAIA ranked opponents this year. Joshua Hamilton ranks fourth in the country in scoring at 22.5 points per game. Traylin Prejean is averaging 11.6 and 6.8 rebounds. Lord Akah is averaging 10.8 points and 7.8 rebounds.
