Charles Wallace Charges Celts at Austin College Invitational

Celt Swimming made waves of excellence at the Austin College Invitational over the weekend, navigating through a diverse field of Division I, II, and III competitions. St. Thomas secured a commendable 5th-place finish, marked by outstanding performances.

Leading the charge, Charles Wallace emerged as a standout force, dominating the 100 free and 100 butterfly at the fiercely competitive Austin College Invitational. The freshman showcased remarkable skill, completing the 100 free in 50.32 and the 100 butterfly in 55.48, claiming the top spot among all DIII swimmers in both races.

Oscar Mayorga delivered an exceptional performance, earning top-four finishes in all three of his races. In the 200 free, Mayorga clocked an impressive 1:50:43, emerging as the fastest DIII swimmer in the race. He outpaced two DI swimmers and all SCAC competitors. Mayorga continued his success in the 200 butterfly, securing third place at 2:05.75, and in the 500 freestyle, finishing 2nd with a time of 5:00.31.

Lucas Blado represented the Celts in the 100-yard backstroke, clinching fifth place with a swift time of 59.01. He further asserted his prowess in the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall in an impressive 2:10.67, the highest-placing DIII swimmer among four DI competitors.

Josiah Mendez contributed to St. Thomas's performance in the 50 freestyle, securing 14th place with a time of 26.14.

Together, the formidable foursome of Mendez, Blado, Mayorga, and Wallace showcased their synergy in the 400 relay, finishing fourth at 3:57.42.

After the scores were tallied, Men's Swimming celebrated a well-earned 5th place with a total of 164 points.
