Celt Men's Swimming delivered an exceptional performance during the Trinity Invitational this past weekend, from Friday to Sunday. In a challenging field that included rivals from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and NAIA, St. Thomas secured a commendable 7th place with a total of 52 points.
Friday:
The Celts commenced their invitational journey after a rigorous morning of preliminary races, beginning with the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. The quartet of Oscar Mayorga, Lucas Blado, Josiah Mendez, and Charles Wallace claimed the 14th spot with a swift time of 1:34.39. Following this, Mayorga showcased his prowess in the 500 Yard Consolation, securing a 4th-place finish at 4:50.04 amidst seven competitors. In the 200-yard Individual Medley, Lucas Blado capped off the day by clinching 8th place in the consolation final with a time of 2:02.43.
Saturday:
The Celts continued to make waves on Saturday, starting with the 200-yard medley relay. Mayorga, Blado, Mendez, and Wallace seized the 13th position, surpassing three Austin College teams. Individually, Blado competed in the 100-yard butterfly, claiming 5th in the consolation at 53.11. Mayorga followed suit in the 200-yard freestyle, securing 6th place in the consolation final with a time of 1:47.07. The highlight of the day came from Blado, who triumphed in the 100-yard backstroke consolation with a remarkable time of 54.39, just shy of two seconds behind the champion.
Sunday:
Sunday commenced with a bang as Lucas Blado dominated the 200-yard backstroke consolation, clocking in at an impressive 1:57.51, outpacing seven other swimmers. In the 200-yard butterfly, Mayorga and Wallace secured 4th and 6th place in the consolation final, registering times of 2:02.60 and 2:03.45, respectively. The weekend concluded with the Celt men excelling in the 400-yard freestyle relay, claiming 14th place with a time of 3:26.44, surpassing SCAC rivals from Southwestern, McMurry, and Austin College.
