Celts Make Waves in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, LA- St. Thomas swim teams traveled to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for a Tri-Meet hosted by Centenary College, competing against Centenary and Austin College. Despite facing stiff competition, the Celts showcased their determination and delivered strong performances across several events.

The women's team opened with a solid showing in the 200-yard medley relay, with the quartet of Kelsy Elgar, Ava Verret, Emely Lopez, and Valentina Garcia-Lara clocking a time of 2:08.57 to secure second place. Garcia-Lara continued her success with a standout swim in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing second with a time of 2:14.36. The women capped off their efforts with another second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as Garcia-Lara, Lopez, Verret, and Elgar combined for a time of 1:56.12.

On the men's side, Oscar Mayorga led the charge, claiming first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.53. Mayorga also delivered a strong third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in at 56.83. Charles Wallace and Luke Newman made an impact in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing second and fourth, respectively.

The men's relays added to the team's success, with the 200-yard freestyle relay squad of Austin Brister, Newman, Mayorga, and TaylorLee Goebel securing a competitive time of 1:34.94. Goebel also contributed a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.
