The St. Thomas Men's Cross Country team competed Saturday morning in the SCAC Championships in Seguin, Texas. In a field of 7 teams from across the conference, the Celts were able to secure a 3rd-place finish as a team, a strong result to wrap up the conference portion of their season.
Junior Jhancarlos Carpio was the first Celt to cross the finish line, posting a time of 26:43.48 to finish 10th overall at the event. Senior James Urbina and sophomore Marc Mendoza contributed solid times for the Celts as well, finishing with times of 27:02.07 and 27:33.69, respectively. Urbina finishes his senior season's conference slate with a 14th place finish overall, while Mendoza came in 19th. Freshman Diego Moya continued a solid freshman season with a 22nd-place finish, crossing the finish line with a time of 28:25.57. Rounding out the scoring for St. Thomas was sophomore Drew Cunningham, posting a time of 29:39.25, good for 29th place individually. Freshman Osvaldo Jasso also competed in Saturday's event, recording an individual time of 32:30.67 and finishing in 36th place.
These scores all added up to a top-three finish for the Celts as they finished ahead of SCAC foes Southwestern, Texas Lutheran, Schreiner, and Dallas.
This completes the conference slate for Men's Cross Country this season, but they are still looking forward to the NCAA West Regional on November 11th!
