Second Half Surge Falls Short as Men's Soccer Drops Match to HBU

Second Half Surge Falls Short as Men's Soccer Drops Match to HBU

UST Men's Soccer opened up their 2021-22 season with a hard-fought exhibition against Houston Baptist. After 90 minutes of play, the Huskies downed the Celts, 3-1.

St. Thomas would find themselves down early after the Huskies netted their first goal of the night in the second minute. The Celts would have multiple chance to even the score but would never capitalize, leaving the door open for HBU to extend their lead. In the 35th minute, the Huskies would yet again score, to give them the 2-0 advantage heading into the half.

The Celts' offense would click in the second half, as they outshot HBU 10 to 8. UST would cut their deficit in half with a 58th minute goal from Gabe Salako. As the momentum shifted towards the Celts, they would continue to pressure the Huskies. After failing to convert on numerous free kicks and corner kicks, HBU would take control with a late-game goal.

St. Thomas will be back in action next Wednesday as they challenge FC Estudinates. Kickoff is schedule for 7:00PM at Houston Sports Park.
