Men's Soccer Secures #5 Seed in Conference Tournament

San Antonio, TX. – The Celts men's soccer team ended the regular season on a high note by defeating the Our Lady of The Lake Saints 3-2. This game was a rescheduled match from October 18 when heavy rain and unplayable field conditions forced the replay. The game would prove to be an important one as the win secures 5th place in the conference standings.

From the opening kick the Saints were not able to contain UST as goals by Edwin Saldivar (SO/Houston, Texas), Joshua Lockhart (SO/Toronto, Canada) and Carlos Marquez (JR/Juarez, Mexico) paced the Celts in the first 25 minutes. The first half ended with the Celts controling the pace of the game and the goal scoring chances.

The second half started with the Saints on the front foot. The pressure paid off as the Saints scored 2 goals from free-kicks midway through the second half. In the end the 3 goal margin was enough to propel UST to a 4th win in a row. The 2 goals scored by the Saints were the first goals allowed by the Celts in 614 minutes, a streak that spanned 6 plus games.

The #5 seed Celts will travel to #4 seed University of the Southwest for their RRAC opening round game. The game is set for Saturday, November 3rd. Kick-off is set for 1pm. The winner of this match will earn a spot in the RRAC semi-final to be played at Texas A & M - Texarkana.
