Men's Soccer Wins Again; Earns 4th Straight Shutout

The UST Men's Soccer Team is finding ways to win games and it could not come at a better time as the Red River Conference playoffs are within reach.

The Celts earned an impressive 4-0 Red River Conference victory at Houston-Tillotson on Saturday. The game kicked-off at 10am due to a change in the schedule. The Celts came ready to play dominating nearly all of the first half.

Nick Seydler (FR/Pearland, Texas) got the scoring started after a line breaking pass from Jose Medrano (JR/Houston, Texas). Seydler's goal came in his first game back after returning from an injury suffered over 6 weeks ago. Edwin Saldivar (SO/Houston, Texas) got the second goal of the game scoring off an inch perfect cross from Tom Hultsch (SO/Lueneburg, Germany) placing his driven header past the outstretched arms of the H-T goalkeeper. Jacob Evans (SO/Chester, United Kingdom) then made it 3-0 after he carved out some space at the back post to neatly finish from close range after Liam Ruane (SR/Warrnambool, Australia) won a decisive aerial challenge. UST would carry this momentum in to the half time break.

The hosts started the 2nd half pressing; making it difficult for UST to get on the ball and control the pace of the game. However, UST would not be denied with Edwin Saldivar scoring his 2nd goal of the game after finding space on the right hand side and striking from long range. Alan Cruz (FR/Houston, Texas) opened up his assist account with his pass Saldivar. Omar Lopez (SO/Alvin, Texas) earned the shutout making 5 saves, including tipping a long distance drive over the bar in the 2nd half to preserve the clean sheet. UST has now played 380 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal.

Head Coach Ian Clerihew stated "I've seen a positive difference in the way the team is defending collectively over the last 4 games. There is still plenty of work to do as we prepare for 2 important home games this week."
