The UST Men's Soccer Team put in a full 90-minute effort to earn a 3-0 win at Paul Quinn College. The Celts, who had struggled to score goals in September made up for it vs. the Tigers.
The Celts first goal was off of pure hard work. Walid Bnider (FR/Katy, Texas) ran onto a long pass from Tom Hultsch (SO/Lueneburg, Germany) and calmly slipped the ball past the onrushing Tigers goalkeeper. UST would carry this momentum through the remainder of the 1sthalf while creating a number of goal scoring chances.
The 2ndhalf started with UST continuing to pressure Paul Quinn into mistakes that led to goal scoring opportunities. Jacob Evans (SO/Chester, United Kingdom) would add a spectacular finish from a Tom Hultsch assist to make it 2-0 with 25 minutes remaining. UST closed out the scoring with a sharp finish by Carlos Marquez (JR/Juarez, Mexico) from a Hugo Godinez (SO/Houston, Texas) assist.
A stout defensive effort enabled the Celts to keep the clean sheet with goalkeeper Omar Lopez (SO/Alvin, Texas) picking up the shutout.
The University of St Thomas men's soccer team returns to RRAC action on Thursday, Oct. 11 vs Jarvis Christian College. The game will be played at San Jacinto Community College South Campus and is set for a 7:30pm kick-off.
