Men's Soccer Drops RRAC Opener

Victoria, TX. – The UST Men's soccer team dropped their first game in conference play to the UHV Jaguars 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Celts started the game with energy maintaining the ball, creating the better opportunities, and keeping the Jaguars on their heels for most of the half. The Jaguars took advantage of sloppy defending on a corner kick scoring their first in the 44th minute of the first half. The second half went underway and similar to the first, the Celts were composed in their play but unable to capitalize on their opportunities. The Jaguars made it 2-0 in the 55th minute after an unsuccessful clearance by the Celts from a corner kick. The Celts would fight their way back in the game as sophomore Jacob Evans (SO/Chester, United Kingdom) was brought down in the box earning a penalty for UST. Sophomore Edwin Saldivar (SO/Houston, Texas) was up for the challenge confidently placing the ball in the side netting, making the score 2-1. UHV proved to be efficient on set pieces on the day scoring their third of a wide free kick in the 62nd, followed by their fourth off a counter-attack in the 63rd minute.

The Celts look to bounce back as they host LSU-Alexandria on Thursday, September 27th, and LSU-Shreveport on Saturday, September 29th.
