
Austin, Texas - The University of St. Thomas Volleyball team traveled to Austin, TX, for their last regular season SCAC Volleyball weekend of the 2024 season. The SCAC crossover was hosted at Concordia University. In their first and only Friday match, the Celts had a pivotal game for post-season tournament seeding vs. the Schreiner Mountaineers. The Celts came focused and looked ready for tournament play, dominating Schreiner and winning in straight sets. The set scores were 25-18, 25-23, and 25-20, as the Celts secured their 13th win of the season and improved to 6-7 in SCAC.
The first set was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams exchanging leads. However, midway through the set, the Celts seized control with a 7-3 run and continued to build momentum, claiming the set 25-18. Schreiner came out strong in the second set, taking an 18-10 lead. But the Celts showed resilience, battling with a series of powerful plays and tying the score at 22-22. They held on to their energy and finished strong, winning the set 25-23. The third set followed a similar pattern—tight early on, with the score tied at 10-10. Both teams exchanged leads, and the score was knotted at 18-18 before UST finished with a 7-2 run, securing a 25-20 victory and the match.
Leading the way for St. Thomas was Alexis Bodunrin, who posted 16 kills on a .394 hitting percentage, adding 2 service aces and 9 digs. Audrey Cataline also had a strong performance with 9 kills, 1 assist, and 8 digs. Laynee Beam was another standout, contributing 6 kills and 2 blocks, while Kara Spice helped control the defense with 15 digs.
