
GEORGETOWN,TX- St. Thomas Women's Basketball team concluded their conference road trip in dominant fashion, defeating Southwestern University 61-45 in Georgetown, TX. With this victory, the Celts improved to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in SCAC play, marking their first conference win of the season.
The Celts came out firing on all cylinders, racing to a 15-0 lead in the opening quarter. Their relentless defense held the Pirates scoreless for nearly half the quarter, setting the tone for the game. By the second quarter, the Celts continued to extend their advantage, but Southwestern found momentum midway through the period, closing the gap with a three-pointer and converting a free throw to narrow the deficit to 28-23 at halftime.
In the third quarter, St. Thomas responded with determination, igniting an offensive surge. Three consecutive three-pointers propelled the Celts to a 41-27 lead, while their defense stifled the Pirates, holding them to just nine points in the quarter and a 37% shooting percentage. In the final quarter, the Celts maintained their intensity, steadily increasing their lead to secure the victory.
Kenna Gibson led the way for the Celts, scoring 17 points on an efficient 6-of-12 shooting, including 4 three-pointers. She also contributed 2 rebounds and 2 blocks. Macie Whitfield added 13 points and was a force on the boards with 8 rebounds. Amber Bourgeois chipped in 11 points, connecting on 3 three-pointers and pulling down 5 rebounds.
