Celts Bounce back vs. Tornadoes

The University of St. Thomas men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 89th-minute defeat Friday night at McMurry. Sunday was a pivotal SCAC match for UST. The Celts delivered a strong 3-1 statement victory in Austin vs. Concordia on Sunday afternoon. The win improves the Celts' overall record to 7-4 and 3-2 in conference play. Saint Thomas was determined, scoring two first-half goals and maintaining control throughout the match.

After a scoreless start in the first third of the game, Daniel Castro scored in the 32nd minute with an unassisted goal, giving the Celts a 1-0 lead. Just over two minutes later, Hamilton Estrada extended the lead with his first goal of the season, assisted by Justin Burke and Ian Alvarez. The Celts kept a clean sheet through halftime and went to the locker room with a 2-0 advantage.

The second half saw the Celts continue their momentum, with Castro finding the back of the net again in the 58th minute off an assist from Angel Ramirez, pushing the lead to commanding 3-0. However, Concordia responded quickly off a penalty kick goal by Jose Aguirre a minute later to put the match in question with the final third of the game remaining. Despite the goal, St. Thomas held firm and maintained their 3-1 lead until the final whistle.
