Celts Edge Centenary 2-1 in a Thriller

SHREVEPORT, LA – In their second conference match of the season, the Celts traveled to Shreveport, LA, and grasped a thrilling 2-1 victory over Centenary in the 90th minute. The win moves their overall record to 5-3 and 1-1 in SCAC action. The match showcased a fiercely contested battle between two determined teams.

The first half featured a defensive duel, with neither side able to find the back of the net. The Celts dominated possession, outshooting the Gents 16-3, but the score remained 0-0 heading into halftime.

As the second half unfolded, the intensity increased with UST continuing their offensive push, but the Gents got into the action, too, and had 10 of their shots. When it looked like the match might end in a scoreless draw in the 81st minute, UST's leading goal scorer, Daniel Castro, broke the deadlock and converted a penalty kick. However, exactly 3 minutes later, Centenary responded, leveling the match in the 84th minute with a goal from forward Carter Webb.

With the match seemingly destined for a draw, St. Thomas continued to search for a game-winner. Their consistent effort paid off, and in the 90th minute, Daniel Espinoza found that game-winner off an assist from Castro, securing the Celts' 2-1 victory. Senior Castro had a hand in both of UST's goals. Centenary had little time to respond, and the Celts claimed an important three points.
