New Faces and Vets Lead Celts Over Roos 4-1

This Friday night at Aveva Stadium the University of St. Thomas Celts defeated the Austin College Kangaroos 4-1.

Jayce Nunn opened up the scoring for the Celts in the 3rd minute when Diego Lazo whipped the ball in from the corner flag. The Celts held this 1-0 lead for the entire half, and freshman goalkeeper Marlin Murillo and his back line kept the Celts safe without having to make any saves. The Celts' back line kept the Kangaroos out of any dangerous chances, and no saves were needed.

The second half was a completely different match up. The Kangaroos lifted their game but the Celts shut them out until the 50th minute when Austin Wear equalized for the Kangaroos. As soon as the Celts' kicked off from that goal, the Celts immediately answered back with a beautiful finish from Miguel Zaratos in the 51st minute. The Celts raised the intensity even more, showing their hunger for another goal. After fifteen exciting minutes passed, Ian Alvarrez confidently put away a penalty kick to add to the scoresheet. A handful of chances were taken by the Celts, many barely missing the back of the net many times. To close out the game, Taty Aleman slipped one past the keeper and finalized the scoreline 4-1.

The Celts out-shot the Kangaroos with a total of 26 shots (18 on goal), compared to 3 shots (1 on goal).

On Sunday, October 16th, the Celts will face the University of Dallas at Aveva Stadium at 3pm.
