Houston, Texas- The St. Thomas Celt Men's Golf team finished Day One of the Space City Classic in third place. The tournament kicked off with two rounds on a 71-par course.
Senior Patrick Smetek currently leads the Celts, carding 68 (-3) and 76 (+5) in the first two rounds. Smetek is tied for 5th place after an impressive round one that saw him fire six birdies to keep him near the top.
Senior Cameron Curtis is tied with three other men for 7th place after firing a 74 (+3) and 73 (+2) to open the tournament. Curtis was consistent on the course with 27 pars and three birdies.
St. Thomas as a team carded a 24 over par 592 after two rounds of action. The Celts are just four strokes out from first place sitting at fourth. Mary Hardin Baylor is in first with a score of 21 over par after day one.

Freshman Antonio Ramirez began his spring season by firing rounds of 73 (+2) and 79 (+8) for 10 over par. On par 3 holes, Ramirez is tied for 9th with a scoring average of 3.25.
After a rough start on the course firing a total 12 over par, Zach Allen brings momentum into Day Two firing four birdies on his last six holes.
On newcomer Aydan Watson's first day as a Celt, he shot 80 (+9) and 76 (+5) and three birdies.
In the tournament, there was also a second St. Thomas Team that also competed.
Marshall Hatcher finished Day One in 28th carding 10 over par with 21 total pars and 4 birdies.
Jason Roettgers carded 19 over par and had a scorecard that included an eagle, and 2 birdies to finish tied for 42nd.
Lawson Fiscus carded 23 over par with 15 pars and 4 birdies to lock in 46th place.
Tram Le rounded out the Celts competing with a 30-over par. Le shot 15 pars on the day.
