Celts Take Third Place in D3 San Antonio Invitational

Men's Golf had a strong-showing in the D3 San Antonio Invitational, taking home third place in a field of nine teams. The Celts would lead for part of the tournament and would finish just five strokes shy of the top finisher. Senior Jonathan Miller would pick up his first career win, taking home first place and being named grand champion after shooting one under par.

 

Miller would shoot a career-low 69 in the opening round as the Celts would sit atop the leaderboard after 18 holes. As a unit, St. Thomas would combine for a score of 301, leading Letourneau by a single stroke.

 

The Celts would slow down in the second round, having their weakest performance of the tournament, scoring a 309.  However, St. Thomas would still keep pace with the leaders, sitting in fourth place at the conclusion of day one. Miller would shoot two over, but would hold onto his first place rank heading into the final day. Henry Phavorachit had his best round of the tournament, carding a 77 as he covered precious ground in the overall standings.

 

With 18 holes left to play, the Celts put together the top team score to jump a spot in the team leaderboard. Miller would cap off his stellar performance by shooting even to secure first place. Patrick Smetek and Cade Kiser both tied for 14th overall while both carding a 77 in the final round. Greg DuPont would shoot 21 over par for the tournament, locking him in at 21st place. While Henry Phavorachit would wind up in 25th place overall scoring 22 over par.

 

The Celts will be back in action on Monday, March 7th when they travel to Kerrville, Texas for the Schreiner Spring Classic.
