SHREVEPORT, La. – The St. Thomas Celts baseball team traveled to Shreveport to take on Centenary in the first game of a three-game conference series, falling 3-2 in a tightly contested matchup. The loss moves the Celts to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in SCAC conference.
The Celts got off to a strong start in the top of the first inning when Tyler Mills launched a solo home run, giving St. Thomas an early 1-0 lead. However, Centenary responded in the bottom of the second, tying the game at 1-1.
After a scoreless third inning, the Gents took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring on a ground ball to make it 2-1. They extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth, plating two more runs to take a 3-1 advantage.
The Celts' offense struggled to find momentum in the middle innings, as the game remained scoreless in the sixth and seventh. However, St. Thomas fought back in the top of the eighth, scoring a run to cut the deficit to 3-2. Despite the late push, the Celts were unable to complete the comeback, as Centenary held on to secure the win.
